Notes of class 10th biology chapter 1 life processes- part 2nd

Dental caries

The formation of small cavity or holes in the teeth due to the action of acid forming bacteria and improper Dental Care is called Dental Care.

Respiration

The process of releasing energy from food is called respiration.
The process of respiration involves taking in oxygen into the cells using it for releasing energy by burning food and then eliminating the waste product (carbon dioxide and water) from the body.

Food + oxygen →carbon dioxide+ water + energy
The process of respiration which release energy takes place inside the cell of the body is called cellular respiration.

Breathing and respiration

→The mechanism by which organism obtain oxygen from the air and release carbon dioxide is called breathing.
→Respiration is a more Complex process.
→Breathing involve only physical process.
→Respiration includes breathing as well as the oxidation of the food in the cell of the organism to release energy.

Types of respiration

There are two types of respiration

1) Aerobic

→The respiration which uses oxygen is called aerobic respiration.
Glucose→pyruvate →6CO2+ H2O +38ATP
       (Glycolysis)     (kreb cycle)
→This process releases more energy
→Mitochondria are the site of aerobic respiration in the cells.

2) Anaerobic

→Respiration which takes place without oxygen is called anaerobic respiration.
→Organisms like yeast breakdown of glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide and, release Energy.
Glucose→pyruvate→2C2H5OH + 2CO2 + 2ATP
→In this process less energy is released.

Respiration in plants

Plants get oxygen by diffusion.
This diffusion occur in the different parts of the plant such as roots,  stems and leaves of
Plants .
→Respiration in roots
→Respiration in stems
→Respiration in leaves

Respiration in animals

→In simple multicellular animals like amoeba respiration takes place by the simple diffusion of gases through the cell membrane.
→The animals like earthworm which live in the soil used their skin to absorb oxygen from the air and remove carbon dioxide. so, the respiratory organ in the earthworm is the skin.
→Aquatic animal like fishes have gills as their respiratory organ.
In the insects like grasshopper tracheae are the respiratory organ.
→In human beings all and animals have lungs as their respiratory organ.

Comman feature of all respiratory organs.

→All the respiratory organs have a larger surface area.
→All the respiratory organs have thin walls for easy diffusion and exchange of gases.
→All the respiratory organ like skin gills and lungs have a rich blood supply.
