Mind map of chemistry chapter 1 class10
[ Chemical reaction and equation ]
Chemical change → new substance is formed.
→change in chemical property.
Ex- rusting of iron.
Physical change →no change.
→ change in physical state.
Ex - melting of ice.
Chemical reaction - two or more substance react to form a new substance.
Ex - heating of copper.
Observation helps to determine chemical reaction-
Change in colour.
Change in temperature.
Change in the state.
Formation of gas.
Formation of the precipitate.
Chemical equation - a symbolic representation of a chemical reaction.
Balance chemical equation
The equation in which several atoms are equal on both side reactant as well as product side.
The reactant side →LHS is called as reactant side.
Product side →RHS is called as product side.
Why balance a chemical equation
Balancing should be done so that the law of conservation of mass should not be disturbed.
Law of conservation of mass
It states that mass cannot be created and nor be destroyed but can be changed from one form to another form.
Types
1) combination reaction.
Two or more substance combined to or a single product.
Ex -2H2+O2→2H2O
2) decomposition reaction.
One substance breaker into two or more substance
Ex -FeSO4 → Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
3) displacement reaction.
High reactive element displaces less reactive element from its solutions.
Ex - fe + cuso4 → feso4 + cu
4) double displacement reaction.
Exchange of ion takes place
Ex- Bacl2 + Na2so4 → 2Nacl + Baso4
5) redox.
Oxidation and reduction take place
Ex - C + O2 → CO2
Oxidation - when oxygen combine and Hydrogen is removed.
Reduction - when hydrogen combine and oxygen removed
Rancidity
Oxidation of oil and fat substance which l and taste.
How to avoid rancidity
By using antioxidant.
By using airtight containers.
By packing food with nitrogen.
By keeping food in the fridge.
Corrosion
Metal is eaten up by air, water and other substance.
Iron forms are layer when coming in contact with air and water called rust.
Prevention
Painting, Galvanization, electroplating.
